Christmas crafts
These free Christmas worksheets for preschool and pre-K build letters, first sounds and strong little hands. Your child glues little letters onto gingerbread friends, traces icicle paths, cuts along snowy paths and matches Christmas shadows.
Cut out the little b. Find the gingerbread friend with the big B. Glue it on.
None of these pages ask your child to read a word. You read the short instruction. The pictures do the rest.
Our free Christmas preschool worksheets PDF has 9 pages, with picture names and answer keys at the end. No signup, no email. In the list at the top, two games and three crafts sit as separate PDFs.
Three pages show winter, not Christmas. They still work in January.
You’ll also find all five PDFs in our printables library.

Christmas letter worksheets for preschool
On pages 1 to 3, your child works on letters and the first sound in a word.
Gingerbread letter friends: capital and lowercase (page 1)
Six gingerbread friends each wear a capital letter. Your child cuts out six little letters and glues each one on the card its big letter friend holds. The letters A, B, E, G, H and R have two forms that look different. Say the letter’s name each time you glue one.
Christmas houses: first sounds (page 2)
Two Christmas houses have a letter on the door, B and C. Your child cuts out six pictures, says each name and glues it in the house whose letter starts it. Bell, ball and boot go to B. Cookie, candy and candy cane go to C. Stretch the first sound, like b-b-bell. Hearing first sounds is one of our phonemic awareness activities.
Same letter stockings (page 3)
Each row starts with a red stocking and its letter. Your child colors every stocking in the row with the same letter. The rows are S, C, G and a lowercase a. Look-alikes like Z, O, Q, o and e are mixed in.
Our letter tracing pages show how to write a letter once your child can spot it.
Preschool Christmas fine motor activities
On pages 4 and 5, the small hand muscles that hold a pencil and work scissors get practice.
Icicles and candy canes: pencil paths (page 4)
Four little scenes ask for four kinds of line. Icicles go straight down, and snowballs roll left to right. A penguin slides down a hill. Candy cane hooks go up, over and down the long stick. Each path has light dashes and a green start dot. It’s a Christmas tracing page for first pencil lines, the pre-writing step. You’ll find more warm-ups for little hands in our fine motor skills for kindergarten guide.
Christmas cutting practice (page 5)
Four snowy paths run to a snowman, a penguin, an igloo and a boot. They are straight, wavy, zigzag and steps. Your child cuts in from the edge of the paper to the little scissors. Then they cut along the thick black line. Start with the straight path. Turn the paper, not the scissors.
Christmas matching worksheets for preschool
Pages 6 to 8 are picture puzzles. They take sharp eyes, not letters.
Match the shadows (page 6)
Five Christmas pictures sit on the left. The gray shadows sit mixed up on the right. Your child draws a line from each picture to its shadow.
Which one is different? (page 7)
Each row has four winter pictures. One is not like the others. Your child circles it, like the snowman with no hat. Ask what makes it different.
Color, cut and build a snowman puzzle (page 8)
Page 8 is a big picture of a snowman and a penguin by an igloo. Your child colors it, cuts on the black lines and mixes the four strips. Then they build it again. For a younger child, start with two strips.
Two free Christmas games for preschoolers
In the Christmas picture spin and cover game, players spin a paper clip, name the picture it points to and cover one like it on their board. It’s for 2 to 4 players, and nobody reads. For 4 and 5 year olds, say the first sound of bell, cookie or candy cane too.
The Christmas gingerbread letter puzzles are 26 gingerbread houses and 26 roofs, A to Z, on two cut pages. Each roof has a capital letter. Each house has a lowercase letter. Every roof fits every house, so your child matches by letter. The cuts are straight. Cardstock helps.
What is inside my snowman? A Christmas letter craft
The Christmas snowman letter craft is a free 3-page PDF. A smiling snowman in a red hat has two doors that fold shut over the tummy. Behind the doors sit four letters, P, I, W and S. Your child traces the big and little letter, circles it among three letters and colors the picture that starts with its sound. The pictures are a penguin, an igloo, a wagon and Santa.
Page 1 is the front in color, with a scarf, mittens and a Name box. Page 3 is the same front in black and white.
You print two sheets, page 2 and one front. Print one-sided, at 100%.
- Trace, circle and color first, while page 2 is still flat.
- Cut out the snowman on the solid line. Fold both doors in on the dashed lines.
- Cut out the front, then cut it in half. Close both doors. Glue a half on each closed door.
A grown-up does the cutting for a 3 year old.
Christmas animal crafts with bouncy legs
Our free Christmas animal crafts are six cut, fold and glue friends: a reindeer, a penguin, a polar bear, a fox, a snowy owl and a bunny. Each animal has its own page in black and white, so it prints light and your child colors it. A big head fills the page. The arms and legs are paper strips that your child folds back and forth, then glues behind the head. A small picture in the corner shows the finished animal.
Cut near the line. A white edge is fine. A grown-up cuts the trickier ears and tails for a younger child.
Christmas spiral ornaments to hang on the tree
Our free Christmas spiral ornaments turn a paper circle into a bouncy hanging spiral. The four friends are an elf, Santa, a reindeer and a Christmas tree. Each one has a head, a pair of boots and a circle with a spiral line.
- Cut out the circle. Keep cutting along the spiral line, from the little scissors to the middle.
- Glue the head on the middle and the boots on the end.
- Tape a string behind the head and hang it up.
Page 2 is in full color. Page 3 is the same sheet in black and white to color first, and it uses much less ink. Spiral cutting is great scissor practice for a 4 or 5 year old. A grown-up cuts the spiral for a 3 year old.
Which pages fit a 3, 4 or 5 year old
Most pages work from age 3 with help. Every page works by age 5.
- Age 3: pages 4, 6 and 7, and the spin and cover game. A grown-up does any cutting.
- Age 4: add pages 3, 5 and 8, and pages 1 and 2 with help.
- Age 5: every page and the letter puzzles.
- At home or in class. Try one page a day, about 10 minutes, from December 1.
For Christmas number pages, see our Christmas color by number pack. When your child starts sounding out short words, our Christmas worksheets for kindergarten are the next step.
For a first Christmas writing page, try our free Letter to Santa draw and write pack. It starts with tracing Dear Santa and drawing a gift. It’s made for kindergarten, so save it for a 5 year old who knows some letters.
